Resolution matters. But focus and seeing matter more. When reducing down to the size above the effects are subtle but not at full resolution. Above is a mosaic of three images with the 10D plus three with the D30 scaled to the same size (color retained); below are simple crops of the original images (sharpened and converted to grayscale but not scaled). It's clear to me that the softness in the right image is more due to seeing or focus than resolution.
